CME Accreditation Statement:
This activity (“National Association of Medical Examiners 2023 Annual Meeting”) has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society and the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC). MedChi is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

MedChi designates this “live” educational activity (“NAME 2023 Annual Meeting”) for a maximum of 30 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Educational Objective/Target Audience
The objective of the NAME 2023 Annual Meeting is to increase basic and applied pathology knowledge, focusing on autopsy and forensic pathology.  The NAME 2023 Annual Meeting is designed to meet the participants’ education needs in the physician competency area of Medical Knowledge, as defined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), and to support participants’ lifelong learning towards a goal of promoting patient safety and improving patient care and is specifically targeted to forensic pathologists, medical examiners, coroners, death investigators, forensic administrators, pathology assistants, laboratory personnel engaged in forensics, and forensic scientists.

At the completion of the NAME 2023 Annual Meeting, participants should be able to:

  1. discuss medico-legal death investigation protocols;
  2. describe regulations and competencies for medical examiners;
  3. discuss the forensic investigation of accident- and trauma-related death;
  4. discuss forensic science approaches to investigation of domestic violence and homicide; and
  5. discuss forensic science approaches to sudden death in children and adult populations.

Disclosure of Financial Relationships and Resolution of Conflicts of Interest:
In order to ensure balance, independence, objectivity and scientific rigor in all its educational activities, and in accordance with ACCME Standards, MedChi requires that all individuals in a position to influence and/or control the content of MedChi CME activities disclose to MedChi and subsequently to learners whether they do or do not have any relevant financial relationships with proprietary entities producing health care goods or services that are discussed in CME activities.  Faculty are asked to use generic names in any discussion of therapeutic options, to base patient care recommendations on scientific evidence and to base information regarding commercial products/services on scientific methods generally accepted by the medical community.  All MedChi CME activities are evaluated by participants for the presence of any commercial bias and thus input is used to subsequent CME planning decisions.  The primary purpose of this “live” CME activity is educational and the comments, opinions, and/or recommendations expressed by the faculty or authors are their own and not those of MedChi or NAME.

Planning Committee Disclosures:
The planners and reviewers for this activity have reported no relevant financial relationships to disclose.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
CME certificates have now become digitized. Upon registration, your name was entered as a participant in this CME activity. NAME has up to 60 days to submit all final materials to MedChi. Upon receipt of that information, MedChi will mark this activity as completed and your name will be submitted for CME. To access your CME certificates, you may do the following:

  • Physicians can create a personalized account on CME Passport. The ACCME will match them to a unique learner record in PARS.
  • When a physician logs in to their CME Passport account, they will be able to see the CME credit data that have been reported on their behalf. Our account creation process ensures that
  • they only see their own CME credits.
  • Physicians can create a transcript of the CME and MOC credit reported and email that to their licensing board, employer, credentialing body, or any other regulatory authority they choose.
  • Physicians do not need to report CME or MOC credits to medical or certifying boards that are collaborating with the ACCME. Those boards will have access to the information. For more information, visit our State Medical Boards Collaboration webpage (https://www.accme.org/state-medical-licensing-boards-collaboration) and CME for MOC webpage (https://www.accme.org/cme-counts-for-moc).
